Hi, all.
I'm a ceramic artist with a studio in East Providence. I've been there about a year, after 5 years in Pawtucket.
Previously, I taught ceramics at RISD. And in a former life, I was a founding principal in a ceramic 3D printing company in Boston, Figulo. Also, I spent a number of years in Baltimore running the gallery and artist residency programs at Baltimore Clayworks. After that, I was the Educational Coordinator and an instructor in the Harvard ceramics program. And many, many years ago, I was the founder and editor of Critical Ceramics, the first online contemporary ceramics "magazine" in the days before things called blogs.
My formal education was with Bill Daley at the University of the Arts in Philly, the Portland School of Art, and then NYSCC/Alfred for graduate school with Anne Currier, Doug Jeck, Val Cushing and others. Even though that was a long time ago, I feel like I am just starting my studio career.
Although my studio practice is ceramic centric, I'm interested in many areas - photography, sound, kinetic/interactive sculptures, printmaking, and more. But my practice always returns to ceramics at it's core. There is so much to learn!
Currently, I fire at cone 6 in an electric kiln. I have been developing some ideas for an embarrassingly long time with little to show for it. To this end, I've spent the last few years developing slip casting bodies and a number of glazes. I make all my own glazes and clay bodies.
Aside from my cone 10 electric barrel kiln (roughly 27" x 27", 26" shelves) , I have a little 120v test kiln, an Elegoo Carbon fdm 3d printer, slab roller, air compressor, gram scales, shop vacs, and a number of power tools - little band saw, scroll saw, chop saw, drill press, grinding wheel and more.
